YouTube for the Presidency

I have never been one to follow political debates very closely yet I’m intrigued by the way the current presidential race is unfolding – especially the YouTube stuff. You have to wonder what this says for the future of politics in our country. Of course, all of the candidates in the current race are career politicians but with the tools that are available it would be entirely possible for anyone in our country to run for president – isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?

I am no expert on American history but I don’t believe that our founding father ever intended for anyone to be a career politician, for the presidential candidates to be determined by wealth and prestige, or for obscene amounts of money to be spent on learning how to make the other guy look bad. What they intended was for level-headed Americans with regular jobs, love of country, and a vision for the future to take a few years out of their busy schedules and do what was best for our nation.

Is it possible that web 2.0 and increasing connectivity and collaboration could level the playing field again? I can’t say that I’m sure but aren’t the prospects fascinating??

What issues do you feel are important in the current presidential debates? Ask the candidates by submitting a video via YouTube. Let’s make sure the voice of education is heard!

Thanks to Joe Piscano at mustech.net for pointing this out.
