Instructional Support vs. Mr(s). Fix It

After the ever increasing flow of traffic in Jefferson County over the last couple of days, I am patiently waiting for the groundhog to decide if we are having 6 more weeks of winter.  Phil, if you're listening, I vote NO.  A few fun facts about Groundhog's day from Wikipedia.   Please feel free to debate the relevancy and appropriateness of Wikipedia in schools - (I like that one).  Speaking of which, there was a good post on the Blue Skunk blog not too long ago about that very subject.

As I talked about yesterday, I am going to start throwing out some of my goals for both myself and FASD.  I have been SO BUSY for the past - well, probably 2 years or so.  I feel like I am doing good to stay above water and keep things moving most days.  Maintaining status quo is not a bad thing - but it's not good enough for me anymore.  I am ready to start moving forward and in order to that I need to refocus.

I should probably have started with describing what our schools will look like if I am able to accomplish all of my goals (UbD baby!) but I am starting with my first goal because I find it to be the key to everything else.

Goal # 1: Instructional Support vs. Mr(s). Fix It
Don't get me wrong.  I know things need fixed sometimes.  That's what Mr. Roberts and I have been doing since the beginning of last year and we've accomplished a lot.   Are there still problems? - oh, yes!  Are we going to address them?  Certainly.  However, when I was hired for this job I was hired with the understanding that my main duty would be to continue working with teachers and students in their classrooms.  That hasn't been happening.  Partly because it just hasn't been possible due to network, infrastructure, and (would you believe it?) EdLine & GradeQuick issues.  The rest I must take responsibility for myself.  I think my priorities have been somewhat misplaced.

The most important things in our schools:
  • Who we teach
  • How we teach them
  • What we teach them
In short, the most import thing going on in our buildings = EDUCATION.

GOAL #1:  I will reclaim my place as an instructional coach and technology integrator in our schools.

Doing something interesting?  Could you use an extra pair of hands for a class activity?  Need to toss a few ideas around?  Want to do a collaborative project but need an extra hand in getting things organized?  Please let me know!!!
